Arise Africa has released a photography book that photographer Alissa Hollimon worked years to create. Alissa spent 5 months photographing and documenting the lives of the children that Arise Africa interacts with on a regular basis. Alissa worked in the compounds and neighborhoods with the help of Zambians to fully immerse herself in the culture. The photo book contains images of children throughout Zambia. It also highlights 5 individual children's lives and tells their story through photos as well as text. The stories were written by Jennifer Clouse. Telling the story of orphans in Africa, Hollimon felt was very important.
"After working in Africa for a few years I saw this need for these kid's stories to be told. I realized that people need to be aware of their lives. I also felt like these kids were happy even given the circumstances they lived in and the opportunity to drastically change their lives is very tangible." - Hollimon
Through this book Hollimon hopes to raise awareness about orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa. She also hopes to help individuals see how they can help these kids. Another important part of the project was to try to capture the spirit that the children have and their happiness and love for a life that many would consider extremely devestating.
With the help of many others Arise Africa has released the photography book and ALL sales go back to Arise Africa, ALARM, and CURE International. These are partnering ministries that Arise fully believes in and have helped them along the way.
