Arise Africa Scholarships

Grandson Mwanza

UNIVERSITY:  Africa University - Zimbabwe

MAJOR: Sociology

Our Arise Africa staff has known Grandson since 2005 when he was 10 years old.  Grandson is the oldest of eight children.  His father has a job that pays very little and he can't afford to feed his family.  Grandson is now in his 20's and our staff member Megan, paid for his schooling throughout his life.  Grandson finished high school and then went to a two year Bible College in Zambia.   After graduating from Bible College, Grandson qualified for a scholarship to a 4 year university with Arise Africa.  In August 2016, Grandson started attending Africa University in Zimbabwe.  He currently serves as an intern with Arise Africa.

Grandson has matured throughout the years and is a very hard worker.  He is a natural leader, helps mentor younger children in our programs and is involved in his church.  Grandson is bright, smart and a driven young adult.  He hopes one day to be a social worker or work in a church.

If you choose to help Grandson, we will provide updates for you about his schooling as well as opportunities to communicate with him.  Your money will be going towards his education as well as items needed for every college student.  You will help fund his clothing, bedding, food, and transportation to and from Zimbabwe.

Natasha Nyirenda

UNIVERSITY:  Africa University - Zimbabwe

MAJOR: Psychology

Natasha graduated from high school in Zambia in December of 2015 with very high grades.  Natasha showed up at the Arise Africa office one day and said she wanted to volunteer.  We put her to work and quickly saw the drive and ambition and great heart she has.  Natasha has served in the Arise Homes and at our community schools.  We saw her eagerness to desire to learn and pursue her passions.  After months of volunteering with us, we offered Natasha a scholarship to attend Africa University in August 2016.  Natasha will continued to volunteer with us on an internship until she left for university in August, 2016.

If you chose to help Natasha, we will provide updates for you about her schooling as well as opportunities to communicate with her.  Your money will be going towards her education as well as items needed for every college student.  You will help fund Natasha's clothing, bedding, food, and transportation to and from Zimbabwe.

Joseph Phiri

Joseph has been on Arise Africa staff since 2014.  He has worked as a child sponsorship officer in Matero compound.  Joseph has shown great leadership skills and has an amazing work ethic.  His love for his job and the children he works with everyday has been such a blessing to Arise Africa.  Although we are sad to lose Joseph as a staffer, we are so excited he will have the opportunity to receive a college degree.  We are very hopeful that one day Joseph will come back to Zambia and serve the Lord in a great way no matter what job he has!

If you chose to help Joseph, we will provide updates for you about his schooling as well as opportunities to communicate with him.  Your money will be going towards his education as well as items needed for every college student.  You will help fund his clothing, bedding, food, and transportation to and from Zimbabwe.

David is 19 years old and graduated from high school at Mumbwa Secondary School in the Central Province of Zambia in 2014. He graduated with a certificate for having straight A's through his final stretch of school. David takes school very seriously and is very intelligent. Arise Africa met David because his mother is a teacher at one of the community schools we partner with. After seeing David's ambition and drive in school, Arise Africa chose him as one of four scholarship recipients to attend Africa University from 2016 to 2020. David hopes to be an aeronautical engineer and software programmer. He hopes to support a number of children through school one day just as he is being supported. In 2015, before leaving for Universtiy, David interned with the Arise Africa Child Sponsorship Officers in Matero.
