Arise Africa offers university or continuing-education scholarships.  These go to individuals who have proven a desire to attend school for a particular degree or trade and have strong character.  College in Zambia is about $2,500 a year.  We also provide a monthly stipend for the individuals in our program so that they can focus only on their school work and do not have to worry about living expenses.  Statistics show that only 2% of people in Zambia receive a college education or specialty training.  By giving someone the opportunity of continued education, it drastically improves their lives.  In a country that has high unemployment rates, having a college education enables a person to get a job much easier than others.  Arise Africa is passionate about helping make strong leaders for the country of Zambia.  This is a very important program for the individuals who are in it.  If you choose to help support these individuals, each donor receives a quarterly report on the individual's progress and school grades. You also have the opportunity to write them letters and receive communication from them.

Arise Africa is blessed to partner with Highland Park United Methodist Church who is helping provide scholarships to Africa University for some of our students.  Although parts of their educations are covered through this scholarship, we need funding to help the kids have money for food, lodging, textbooks, computers, clothing, dorm room supplies, and transportation to and from Zimbabwe.  Please help us have funding to provide the kids the necessary items they need while in college!

We currently have Four Scholarship Recipients:

Granson Mwanza

UNIVERSITY:  Africa University - Zimbabwe

MAJOR: Sociology

Our Arise Africa staff has known Granson since 2005 when he was 10 years old.  Granson is the oldest of eight children.  His father has a job that pays very little and he can't afford to feed his family.  Granson is now in his 20's and our staff member Megan, paid for his schooling throughout his life.  Granson finished high school and then went to a two year Bible College in Zambia.   After graduating from Bible College, Granson qualified for a scholarship to a 4 year university with Arise Africa.  Starting in August 2016 Granson will be attending Africa University in Zimbabwe.  He currently serves as an intern with Arise Africa.

Granson has matured throughout the years and is a very hard worker.  He is a natural leader, helps mentor younger children in our programs and is involved in his church.  Granson is bright, smart and a driven young adult.  He hopes one day to be a social worker or work in a church.

If you chose to help Granson, we will provide updates for you about his schooling as well as opportunities to communicate with him.  Your money will be going towards his education as well as items needed for every college student.  You will help fund his clothing, bedding, food, and transportation to and from Zimbabwe.

Natasha Nyirenda

UNIVERSITY:  Africa University - Zimbabwe

Natasha graduated from high school in Zambia in December of 2015 with very high grades.  Natasha showed up at the Arise Africa office one day and said she wanted to volunteer.  We put her to work and quickly saw the drive and ambition and great heart she has.  Natasha has served in the Arise Homes and at our community schools.  We saw her eagerness to desire to learn and pursue her passions.  After months of volunteering with us, we offered Natasha a scholarship to attend Africa University in August 2016.  Natasha will continued to volunteer with us on an internship until she left for university in August, 2016.

If you chose to help Natasha, we will provide updates for you about her schooling as well as opportunities to communicate with her.  Your money will be going towards her education as well as items needed for every college student.  You will help fund Natasha's clothing, bedding, food, and transportation to and from Zimbabwe.
