Doreen Bulaya

Doreen was born on 27 November 2009 and is the youngest of four girls in her family. She is currently in grade 11. Doreen’s father is not in formal employment but takes care of someone’s property and the owner pays him a small salary. He also grows vegetables to help sustain the family, while her mother cares for the home.
Doreen is a quiet and thoughtful girl who enjoys reading books and listening to gospel music. Her favorite subject is English, and her favorite color is sky blue. She loves eating nsima served with chicken and vegetables. Nsima is a paste made from corn meal and water, and it has the consistency of mashed potatoes and tastes like grits. Her favorite fruit is apples.
Doreen’s favorite Bible story is David and Goliath because it reminds her to trust God for courage and confidence. Doreen and her family attend Eastgate Revival Center, a Pentecostal church where she enjoys being involved in church life and sometimes helps with the praise team or Sunday School.
Although she appreciates time alone, Doreen is confident and courageous in her own gentle way. When she grows up, she dreams of working in the hospitality industry.
