Margaret Mazyopa

Margaret was born on the 16th of May 2002. She comes from a family of 3 and is the 2nd born. She has an older sister and younger brother. She used to live in a small village on the eastern part of Zambia, called Chipata. Her father passed away when she was still little. Her mother remarried and had other children. Margaret started school when she was 7 years old. During term break, she came to Lusaka, in a place called Matero, to visit her uncle and aunt. When it was time to go back to school, her aunt convinced her family to allow Margaret to live with her in Lusaka because she needed a bit of help around the home. The aunt wanted someone to do the chores and Margaret was told to stay. From the time Margaret left the village, there has not been any contact with her parents. They have never tried to call or check on her. She has not seen or heard from her siblings either.Margaret was enrolled in a school that Arise Africa ran so she could enter into the sponsorship program. The family could not afford an education otherwise. She got sponsorship from Arise Africa and has been in our program since 2014.

In 2018 Margaret, very bravely, disclosed to Arise Africa staff that some things were happening in her home that were not healthy and harmful for her and her cousin, Violet, to be living in that environment. With the help of the government (social welfare) Arise Africa quickly moved Violet and Margaret into the Arise Homes where they live today in full time care.

Margaret now goes to a private school, Pestalozzi where all Arise Africa children in full time care attend.  She is in the 10th grade. She has lived in the girls home since March 2018 and has made huge strides in her life.  She is happy, safe, and loved.

Margaret is a quiet but fun person to hang around with. She has a strong personality and is focused. She loves to cook and bake, and she is really good at it! She loves to chat with her sisters in the Arise Home. Her favorite food is pizza. Her favorite colors are blue, white and black. She loves to work with her hands. Other than cooking and baking, she loves to sew. Margaret’s favorite subject is math. When she completes school, she wants to be a pilot. This is because she thinks it would be a lot of fun to travel and see the world.

NOTE:  For protection and privacy reasons Arise Africa will not disclose Margaret’s full story online.  However, if you choose to sponsor Margaret Arise will inform you of some more details.
