Tamando Zulu

Tamando is five years old and is in Kindergarten at Arise Christian School. He lives with his 84 year old grandfather because his father passed away when he was young, and his mother is in no condition to responsibly take care of him. Due to his grandfather’s age, Tamando’s grandfather has hearing problems and is unable to work. They are mainly taken care of by generous neighbors who help support them. Tamando lives in a home with no bathroom, no electricity, or running water. Food is scarce and before coming to Arise Christian School, Tamando would sometimes only eat once a day.

Despite this hard life that he and his grandfather are living, Tamando is kind to others and has a positive outlook on life. He hopes to make friends at school and build a foundation for himself that changes the trajectory of his life. He is artistic and loves playing and building with clay.
